Bigmouthmedia Sounds Cautious Welcome To The Google About-Turn On Paid Search Advertising For Gambling Websites In The UK

Bigmouthmedia has sounded a cautious welcome to the news that Google is set to make a dramatic u-turn tomorrow when it lifts its ban on paid search advertising for gambling websites in the UK.

The decision, which overturns the search giant’s policy of refusing to carry AdWords advertisements for gambling operations such as online bingo and casino sites, is expected to presage an online gold rush as bidders hurry to tap into a potentially lucrative new sales vertical.

In addition to opening up a new keywords bidding war, the move could also have a substantial impact on Yahoo. The search engine has until now profited from the PPC revenue from gambling advertisers barred from using Google, but with the field now open stands to lose a considerable chunk of its turnover.

“This is another sudden change that has taken most of the sector by surprise. It will certainly lead to a big switch in the way that advertisers and agencies manage search engine optimisation campaigns for gambling sector clients and opens up a potentially lucrative new vertical for the industry,” said Lyndsay Menzies, Managing Director of bigmouthmedia UK.

She continued, “While many will welcome the addition of a new and highly competitive advertising platform for gambling advertisers, it remains to be seen what impact the move will have on other services. Online People Search Provider Improves Customer Service Following OSIS License

Tracesmart, a major leader in online electoral roll search facilities, announced they have been granted the licence to hold the directory enquires database in house and have fully integrated it into their services. This daily update of OSIS information means that the Tracesmart system will have improved performance – as such telephone listings offered to Tracesmart’s customers carrying out an address search will be guaranteed. Paul Weathersby, Tracesmart’s Technical Director commented, ‘Following an in-depth security audit, which ensured our systems were strong and secure enough to hold this type of data, we are delighted to now be granted direct access to the OSIS data.’

Every technology has limitations and drawbacks. In the case of home entertainment systems, a drawback is the need to organize and manage a collection of videos and dvds. Even when many videos are borrowed, rather than owned, we’d like to be able to track what we’ve seen, make a wish list, assign our own ratings, and create notes about particular movies. Ever stand in a video store with dvd in hand and wonder whether you already own that particular title?

The solution is a system for cataloging—but the system must be easy to use; that is, it must take advantage of what we already know. Software developers Mitch and Jim Haileare creating such a system—a web site called Take11.com where users can catalog their video collections.

Take11 is a web service: there is no software to buy, download, or update. Anyone who can use a web browser can use Take11. If you have a web-enabled mobile phone, you can access Take11 remotely, such as from your local dvd store. To add to your collection, you input just three or four key terms, and Take11 will fill in many details: actors, director, studio, running time—even a cover image. You can then add your own tags, comments, and ratings. About the Developers
Mitch Haile earned a degree in computer science from The College of Wooster. He has been employed by Motorola and several Silicon Valley startups. Currently he is a freelance software engineer based in Boston.

Jim Haile earned an engineering degree from Vanderbilt and a PhD in engineering from the University of Florida. He has twenty-four years experience teaching science, engineering, and computer programming. Currently he resides in upstate South Carolina, where he is a freelance technical writer, editor, and web developer.
