Plymouth Citybus passengers can now purchase tickets online in advance of their journeys via www.plymouthbus.co.uk, as a result of the bus and coach operator’s new partnership with SecureTrading, the UK’s leading independent online payment processor specialist.
The website – developed by web design agency Imaginet – accepts all major debit and credit cards, and will benefit the 14 million customers that rely on Plymouth Citybus’ local transport services each and every year.
Tickets purchased online are in practice activated on the passenger’s individual‘key smartcard’, which – once activated – can then be swiped on the bus’s smartcard reader. The website enables the purchasing of season tickets, multi-buys, day returns and many other travel options.
Plymouth Citybus is looking to offset the initial transaction and website maintenance costs against anticipated increased ticket sales. Peter Oliver, Commercial Manager of Plymouth Citybus, explains: “By launching our first ever online payment system, customers can now buy tickets at their convenience, without having to visit one of our Travel Centres. This has made our operation more efficient, eased congestion and is improving customer satisfaction by helping to make public transport as easy to use as possible. SecureTrading has provided a very good level of service throughout, and we are extremely happy with our new capabilitiesâ€.
Plymouth Citybus is part of The Go-Ahead Group, which is responsible for many regional transport services throughout the UK and makes use of SecureTrading’s reliable and secure internet payment gateway for many of its other local operations.
Tim Allitt, Head of Sales & Marketing, SecureTrading, comments: “In addition to the core functionality provided by our solution, Plymouth Citybus is also able to use our service as a virtual payment for other transactions within the company for items not available online – such as coach bookings and model bus sales. Going forward, we are looking toexpand its payment capabilities even further, and are currently exploring the possibility of taking payments from students using the Plymouth Citybus website pre-book grammar school bus networkâ€.
